CHAPTER NINETEEN: FLAME
âThere they are.â Dante says, pointing toward the yacht docking at a nearby pier.
Weâre at Angelaâs home, standing on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This is where Tally and Dante will hold their wedding next weekend, but right now, it is where I watch Brooke come safely back to me. I donât realize Iâm holding my breath. It swooshes out of me when I see her step onto the pier. She doesnât look up, so she doesnât know the entire club is on the cliff waiting for her.
We return to the house just as Angela reaches the top of the steps that lead to the beach and pier below. Brooke is right behind her. She stops when she sees the wall of leather waiting for her, but then her eyes land on me. I can see the tears forming, and I doubt she sees anything as she rushes over to me.
I feel almost whole when she climbs on my lap and wraps her arms around me. The guys leave us alone as she cries. I stroke her back and revel in how lucky I am to have her back.
âShould you be out of the hospital?â She asks me when she leans back to study my face.
âI needed to see you.â I tell her. She stays on my lap as I wheel us into Angelaâs mansion. Almost everyone is gone. Only Axel and Reaper are still here, and Dante.
âThank you for rescuing her.â I say to Angela, who leans down to kiss my cheek, and then Brookeâs.
âYouâre most welcome. I assume Iâll see you both next weekend for the wedding?â Angela asks, and I nod.
âWeâll be here.â But then I realize that I never asked Brooke to attend. I turn to her. âYou can make it, right?â
Brook laughs. âIâm in the wedding party, remember?â She reminds me.
âOh, yeah.â I say.
âWhat happened to Tony?â Brooke asks.
âHe took off when I shot at him. I know your dad is in contact with the Coast Guard. They want to find him and bring him back here. If heâs smart, heâll just keep sailing and get lost out there.â
âI donât understand what he hoped to accomplish.â Brooke muses. âBesides kidnapping me. I never saw it coming. Do you think he was working with Deion?â
Dante shrugs. âI doubt it, but weâll look into it. Byteâs running a background check on him, see if anything pops. Iâm sure youâll have to speak with the police, but for now, letâs get out of here.â He gives his mother a hard hug before kissing her on her cheek. Brooke thanks her again as we head outside.
With Reaperâs help, I get into the club SUV while Brooke climbs in with me.
âWhere are we going?â She asks as Axel drives us down the long driveway for Angelaâs home.
âClubhouse.â I say, turning to her. âIf thatâs ok? We could go to your apartment.â
She shakes her head. âNo, the clubhouse sounds great. Although, maybe we could stop at my place so I can pack a bag? Iâd like to stay with you.
